What compressing audio actually does
Whatever audio you feed it: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, the lot: Flippy re-encodes at the bitrate you pick. Savings depend on the source: uncompressed and lossless files give up the most (a WAV can lose 90%), while voice recordings can go far lower than music before anyone notices. Not sure? The medium preset is the sweet spot.

It depends on the format it arrives in: uncompressed sources give up the most, already-lossy ones the least. Most files land 30–70% smaller at the medium preset before quality visibly suffers.
Will I lose quality working with audio here?
